Finland’s economic experts and analysts, accustomed to delivering negative updates, are in much higher spirits these days. The previously troubled European country has shown signs of significant improvement after rigorous cost cutting and elevated taxes have prevailed for several years. According to the finance minister of Finland, Petteri Orpo, these measures may in fact help the nation to avoid further austerity.

“Orpo is of the opinion that Finland has put the recession behind them with their trusty economic policy and the effects that are beginning to show as a result,” said Vivian Wang, Chief Economist at China based JSW Corporation.

According to the Bank of Finland, those effects will probably result in a still humble growth of approximately 1.6 percent this annum, increasing from 1.4 percent in 2016. However the economy as a whole is acquiring a wider development base, aided by recuperation in exports and an unexpected stimulation in consumer assurance even as joblessness hangs at almost 10 percent.

In 2015, the country escaped a three-year long economic recession, which was activated by troubles for Nokia Oyj, Finland’s paper-manufacturing sector and a depression in Russia brought about by sanctions. Russia at that time was one of Finland’s largest trading partners. The Finnish government is currently anticipating a marked improvement in exports, encouraged by sizeable investments due in the motor vehicle, ship-construction and pulpsectors.

Orpo reportedly stated that the improvement can somewhat be credited to procedures that have made Finnish goods more viableon an international scale. Last year, the government compelled unions to consent to an arrangement that effectively brought down labor overheads by forcing Finnish people to labor more hours and for less pay.
