Headquartered in San Diego, California, Clipper Oil specializes in supplying fuel to vessels across the Pacific Ocean. For over three decades, the company has been delivering superior quality lubricants and marine fuels, along with other high-end solutions to their customers around the globe. Their customer base includes fishing fleets, cruise ships, ocean-going yachts, power plants, cargo ships and government vessels. In addition to California, Clipper Oil also has offices in American Samoa, Singapore, Majuro, and Pohnpei. And while they cater to the entire Western Pacific, their operations extend to the Eastern side in Balboa, Rodman, and Manta.

“It’s easy for one to be intimidated by diesel prices in California, especially if they’re just getting started,” says the Director of Sales at Clipper Oil. “This does not have to be the case, not when you are buying from us. Our company has been serving Western Pacific ports since the year 1985, and we have an incredible network in the industry. Fuel prices in California are not the same as anywhere else in the US due to the regulations and environmental guidelines. Besides, California also has high fuel taxes, which directly impacts the cost.”

The shipping industry bears a huge weight on international trade. The cost of fuel is one of the most significant determinants for the industry. In the recent past, plenty of studies have been carried out to establish the kind of impact that marine oil, such as bunker fuel, has on the total cost of shipping. Although it’s difficult to find a correlation between the shipping cost and bunker fuel prices, bunker fuel has a wide range of variants including MGO, HFO, IFO, MFO, and MDO, with all these products having different prices depending on their refinement costs. In most cases, the price of bunker oil might be lower for shippers because of the impact of BAF; however, these prices may not be directly corresponding with fuel prices in the market.

“Lube oil is a vital element in the operation of all kinds of machinery on a ship. It is responsible for the cooling and lubrication of the parts, which run relative to each other. Machines cannot effectively work without lube oil,” says the Company Director. “As a trusted firm in California, we only offer top quality lube oil to ensure your machines along with the operations are safeguarded. The lubricants we provide are oxidation resistant, have incredible thermal conductivity, and high flash points which is essential in avoiding fire hazards.”

Diesel prices in California differ based on whether the fuel is clear or dyed. The clear diesel costs much higher than the dyed one because the latter is not included in specific taxes. Besides, dyed-diesel is used off-road, and clear diesel is for on-road use. Clipper Oil offers competitive diesel rates for all marine operations.
