Sudeep Bhattacharya has today been recognized as one of the most sought after candid wedding photographers in India, with features in publications including Vogue India, Conde Nast Traveller Destination Wedding Guide, and several wedding blogs including Vagabomb, Shaadisaga and Canvera. This recognition is, in part, a result of Bhattacharya’s work within the candid wedding photography arena for taking photographs that are honest and unposed captures of fleeting emotions.

Bhattacharya, a native of Bangalore, has been involved with candid wedding photography meaning taking photographs that are honest and unposed captures of fleeting emotions. This can only be achieved by being a keen and integral witness to people’s celebrations. Through his life so far he has been very well traveled, having lived in different parts of the globe. That combined with his love of meeting new people and comfort with multiple languages, comes in as a handy skill to break the ice, and put subjects at ease in front of his lens.

Sudeep Bhattacharya is a photographer and film maker with over 10 years of experience working with audiovisual arts, getting his start after completing his Master’s degree in Film & Media Production from Queensland College of Art, Griffith Film School, Australia, he worked as a Writer/Director in Brisbane, bagging a few awards in the International Short Film Festival circuit, following which he moved back to India, and worked on TV commercials, corporate films, and advertising campaigns with various production houses. He then helped set up and managed photo and video editing and media publishing operations for America Online’s global business, before taking the plunge to set up his own firm, and apply his learning and experience across a wide array of fields.

In response to a question on the driving force behind his success, Bhattacharya explained how it really boiled down to his creativity being driven by an insatiable curiosity in life, and a desire to experiment, explore and discover. A keen focus on creating stories and a distinct narrative style is a binding theme across his work which reflects an amalgamation of diverse influences..

Reflecting on the recognition Bhattacharya is quoted as saying: “I have been featured as one of India’s Top 10 candid photographers. My award winning candid wedding photography can be seen in Conde Nast Traveller, Vogue, Wedding Affair, Shaadisaga, Vagabomb, and several other publications.”

In a recent one-on-one interview, Bhattacharya reminisced on his past achievements other than candid wedding photography, which helped build momentum towards the present day. Notably, one of the proudest opportunities was working with national and international brands including Facebook, Bajaj, Wrangler, Westside, Taxi For Sure, Housejoy, Fastrack, among others..

In the same interview, Bhattacharya stated his intentions for the future. The primary goal for the next 12 months, Bhattacharya states, will be expanding into neighboring countries. Looking farther ahead, the aim is achieving international acclaim.

When asked more personally about how he wants to be perceived and remembered, Bhattacharya said: “I am an Indian wedding photographer and am available to cover couples’ candid wedding photography requirements anywhere in the world. With over 10 years of experience in photography & film, you will find me an attentive and enthusiastic professional. I aspire to tell a couple’s story through a moving set of images, with the utmost focus on being unobtrusive, and honest. My style of candid wedding photography captures couples’ wedding experience for them to cherish and relive in the many years to come. I strive to make pictures that make them think and feel all at once. To transport them in time to the most intimate and fleeting emotions they felt on the most important day of their life. Be it an epic destination wedding in Goa, a lavish palace wedding in Udaipur, a regal nikah in Hyderabad, a fabulous church wedding in Mumbai, or a small wedding with close knit family in any remote part of the world, I have covered a myriad of styles of weddings. A love of culture, people and travel is what led me to embark on this amazing journey, and pursue candid wedding photography full time.”

Bhattacharya closed the interview by sharing his recommendation for anybody who wanted to follow in his footsteps in some fashion, perhaps taking the achievements even further. According to Sudeep Bhattacharya, the key is curiosity, awareness, creativity and passion.
